Honda Activa is a best-selling scooter in India. It has been a market leader in scooter segment for almost decade now. First Impression – The Design There are no major changes as compared to its predecessor Activa 4G. The scooter design is almost similar to the 4G model. However, some minor changes are visible such as chrome linings, LED headlight design etc. It has all new LED headlamp along with the LED position lamp which gives the scooter modern and up-to-date look. STD model is available with regular analogue speedometer console whereas DLX comes with the semi-digital speedometer clock console. Activa 5G introduced with a dedicated boot release which incorporated into the ignition key slot. This allows the rider to reach the boot for refueling without having to remove the key from the key slot. Front hook is another useful feature that allows us to hookup grocery bags. The scooter also fitted with tubeless tyres to reduce chances of a flat tire in the middle of commuting. You will get 18-liters of under seat storage to hold a full-size helmet and other goods you like to carry. Mobile charging socket is available as an accessory which is a must-have feature for smartphone users. Honda Activa 5G’s engine is smooth and quiet as well. 8 bhp of engine power is sufficient for good pickup and smoother ride. The engine may last longer if serviced regularly with use of genuine spare parts. You may still notice the first generation of Activa on roads which shows reliability characteristic of a scooter. Ride, Handling and Safety Activa 5G ride is comfortable due to its longer and comfortable seat. Sufficient leg room for allows comfortable rider position for the tall person. The front suspension appears to be stiffer and may not filter out shocks well over the large potholes. Telescopic fork suspension is missing and hopefully, Honda may consider it in next upgrade. The scooter needs 12-inch wheels instead of current 10-inch wheels offering. Larger wheels would have improved ride quality and stability at higher speed. The brakes are equipped with CBS (Combi Brake System) Honda’s patented technology which ensures equally distributed brake force to the front and rear wheels simultaneously. Mileage and Fuel Tank Capacity The Honda Activa 5G scooter claimed to offer 60 Kmpl of mileage under ideal riding conditions. Mileage (fuel efficiency) largely depends on the riding habits and traffic conditions. You may expect to get around 45-50 Kmpl in city riding conditions. The scooter is fitted with 5.3 liters of fuel tank capacity which is sufficient and provides approximately 250 Km of commuting range considering mileage of 50Kmpl.
